Induced-draft A-frame condenser: a regression pin with no published answer
Tier 3: CFD, co-simulation or another model.
- What was compared
- The air mass flow rate, the heat transfer rate, the steam condensed, the fan shaft power, the air outlet temperature and the total oblique-flow loss coefficient of an induced-draft A-frame air-cooled condenser unit with the delta and fan of Kröger's Example 8.1.4.
- Against
- No published reference exists, since Kröger gives no induced-draft A-frame example; every row is the model's own recorded solution. The two halves of the calculation are compared separately: the induced-draft equation (Kröger, Eq. 8.1.17) in Kröger's Example 8.1.2, and the delta and its fan in Kröger's Example 8.1.4.
- The agreement
- No agreement with an independent source is claimed. The rows hold the model's own solution to within 0.05%: an air mass flow rate of 542.6 kg/s, a heat transfer rate of 18.29 MW and a shaft power of 162 kW per fan.
- What it shows
- The case detects a change in the model's result for this system and says nothing about its accuracy. The accuracy of the induced-draft A-frame unit rests on Kröger's Examples 8.1.2 and 8.1.4, which verify its two halves separately.
- Source
- This model, gated against the two halves Kröger does publish: Eq. 8.1.17 as Example 8.1.2 and the delta as Example 8.1.4No published example exists; Kröger publishes no induced-draft A-frame unit.
