Bekker et al. 2022
A 20-fan induced-draft ACC bank, against the section 8.3 and 8.4 correlations
Tier 3: CFD, co-simulation or another model.
- What was compared
- The recirculation effectiveness and the inlet flow ratio of a unit in a five-by-four induced-draft A-frame air-cooled condenser bank at zero wind, each referred to the same unit standing alone.
- Against
- The CFD study of Bekker et al. (2022, Tables 2 to 5) in OpenFOAM, whose thermal and volumetric effectiveness are these two ratios; it is a second model and not a measurement.
- The agreement
- Kröger's recirculation correlation (Eq. 8.4.25) gives 0.99126 against the study's 0.990, +0.13%. With Terblanche and Kröger's inlet loss (Kröger, Eq. 8.3.4), the inlet flow ratio is at most 0.99541 against 1.000, −0.46%, inside the case's tolerance of ±0.5%.
- What it shows
- The agreement supports the recirculation correlation and the inlet loss of an induced-draft bank on one bank at zero wind. The recirculation correlation is a forced-draft relation applied to an induced-draft bank, so the close agreement does not validate it for induced draft in general.
