A 112-cell air-cooled condenser under crosswind to 12 m/s: the extrapolation's size
Tier 3: CFD, co-simulation or another model.
- What was compared
- The fan volume flow rate of a 112-cell A-frame air-cooled condenser under crosswind at 2 to 12 m/s, relative to its windless value, for the whole condenser and for the windward fan row.
- Against
- The CFD study of a 2 x 600 MW direct air-cooled condenser by He et al. (2013, Section 4.2 and Fig. 6), digitised; another model and not a measurement.
- The agreement
- At 2 m/s the whole-condenser flow ratio agrees to within 0.2 points (0.982 against 0.98). The model reads 3.8 points high at 4 m/s and 11.3 and 12.3 points high at 8 and 12 m/s (0.963 against 0.85 and 0.84), and its windward-row factor stays at 0.786 above 3 m/s where the CFD's falls to 0.57 at 12 m/s.
- What it shows
- The case measures how far the crosswind method of Kröger (Vol. 2, Section 9.3) departs from a CFD study when it is extrapolated beyond the 3 m/s its tabulated factors cover. It records the size of that extrapolation and is not evidence of accuracy at those wind speeds.
