Kröger Example 8.1.4
A-frame air-cooled steam condenser
Tier T: a textbook worked example - a published answer, not a measurement.
- What was compared
- The air mass flow rate, the heat transfer rate of the unit and of each of its two tube rows, the steam condensed, the fan shaft and electrical power, the temperature of the air leaving the last tube row and the total oblique-flow loss coefficient of a forced-draft A-frame air-cooled steam condenser unit with two rows of plate-finned flattened tubes.
- Against
- Kröger's worked Example 8.1.4 (Kröger, Vol. 2, Section 8.1), a published calculation and not a measurement.
- The agreement
- The air mass flow rate, the heat transfer rate and the fan power are reproduced to within 0.011%, and every published loss coefficient to five significant figures. Every compared quantity lies within the case's tolerance of ±0.5%.
- What it shows
- The agreement verifies that the model implements Kröger's row-by-row method for a forced-draft A-frame condenser as published, on his film condensation relation and with each row condensing all the steam it admits, as the example states. It says nothing about the method's accuracy against a measured plant, and it does not test the default condensation relation of Shah or the shared outlet header.
