Kröger Examples 8.3.2 and 8.4.2
An eighteen-unit air-cooled condenser bank
Tier T: a textbook worked example - a published answer, not a measurement.
- What was compared
- The inlet flow ratio, the plan dimensions, the heat transfer rate and the recirculation effectiveness of a bank of eighteen forced-draft A-frame condenser units in three rows of six, on a platform 25 m above ground behind an 8.27 m windwall.
- Against
- Kröger's worked Examples 8.3.2 and 8.4.2 (Kröger, Vol. 2, Sections 8.3 and 8.4), which extend the unit of Example 8.1.4; they are published calculations and not measurements.
- The agreement
- The inlet flow ratio of 0.98398 and the bank's plan width and length are reproduced exactly, and the bank's flow-proportional heat transfer rate of 347.68 MW to 0.004%. The recirculation effectiveness is 0.99185 against the printed 0.99139, within the case's tolerance of ±0.1%; the printed value does not follow from the example's own inputs, which give 0.99116.
- What it shows
- The agreement verifies that the model implements Salta and Kröger's inlet flow ratio (Kröger, Eq. 8.3.2) and Duvenhage and Kröger's recirculation correlation (Eq. 8.4.25) for a forced-draft condenser bank as published. Neither relation states an accuracy, and the agreement says nothing about their accuracy against a measured bank.
